How to Cancel Spotify Premium

Canceling Spotify Premium is quick once you know the one thing that trips almost everyone up: you cannot do it inside the Spotify app. It is a web task. This guide covers the exact path, what happens to your music after you cancel, and the special case of subscriptions billed through Apple or Google.

The fast answer

As of mid-2026, cancel Premium from a web browser, on your phone or a computer:

1. Go to spotify.com and log in.
2. Open your Account page, then find Your plan or Manage plan.
3. Select Change plan or Cancel Premium.
4. Follow the prompts and confirm. You will get a confirmation that your plan ends on a specific date.

That date is the end of the period you already paid for, so note it.

Why you cannot cancel inside the app

This is the part that sends people in circles. The Spotify mobile app does not include a cancel button for Premium, so opening the app and hunting for one is a dead end. Canceling lives on the website instead. If you are on your phone, open a browser, go to spotify.com, and log in there rather than in the app. Same account, different door.

What happens to your music when you cancel

Canceling does not cut off your music at the moment you click. Your Premium features stay on until the end of the billing period you already paid for, and only then does the account move to the free tier. So if you cancel mid-cycle, you keep ad-free listening and offline downloads until your paid time runs out, and there is no benefit to waiting until the last day to cancel.

When the period ends, your account becomes free rather than gone. Your playlists, saved songs, and followers all remain. You simply return to the ad-supported free experience, with the limits that come with it, such as ads and reduced offline listening.

Cancel to free, or delete entirely

These are two different things, and it is worth being clear which you want.

• Downgrade to free. Canceling Premium, as above, stops the payments and drops you to the free tier while keeping your account, playlists, and library intact. This is what most people want.
• Delete your account entirely. If you want your account and data removed, that is a separate request on Spotify's support site, and it is permanent. Only do this if you are sure, since your playlists and history go with it.

For most people, canceling Premium is enough. Delete only if you specifically want to leave the service altogether.

If you signed up through Apple or Google

Where you started your subscription decides where you cancel it, and this is the second most common source of confusion.

• Billed through the Apple App Store. If you subscribed to Spotify inside an iPhone or iPad at some point, Apple handles the billing, and the spotify.com cancel path will not stop it. A quick way to tell: check your bank statement or the confirmation email. If the biller shows Apple or Google rather than Spotify, use that platform's cancel path, not the website.

Confirm it is done

However you cancel, look for the confirmation that your plan ends on a set date, whether on screen or by email. That is your proof the next charge will not happen. If you canceled on spotify.com but the biller was actually Apple or Google, you will not get that confirmation, which is your signal to cancel again in the right place.
